Dusty bits of forgotten past
Welcome! You've stumbled across a cozy little space dedicated to Shabby Chic.
What is Shabby Chic? It is a form of
interior design born in Great Britain,
which later became popular, especially in the USA during the 1980's, thanks to the wonderful creativity of Rachel Ashwell. According to Wikipedia,
in the Shabby Chic philosophy
furniture and furnishings are either chosen for their age and signs of wear and tear or new items are distressed
to achieve the appearance of an antique.
You can easily find lovely pieces of furniture in country houses, markets and... in your grandmother's attic. Sometimes just a wipe is enough,
more often you have to put all your love into repairing what will become a unique and very special piece. Being it a four-poster bed, a huge
wardrobe or a tea-tray, you will be more satisfied with it than with anything you'll ever buy.
My thoughts about decorating are that a home can be truly lived in and still be lovely. I believe in cozy relaxed settings where kids are free to
put their feet on the sofa and guests can place their cups on the coffe table without a care. For me, the secret to living well is to surround
myself with beautiful things that are practical and deliciously comfortable.
